Oh my! Here it is...Already August! The kids will be going back to school in several weeks. We've already done our yearly school shopping trip to the mall.
We spent two weeks in Colorado again this year...same wonderful old two story-four bedroom log cabin by a mountain stream. This year we were there at the time of the Glen Haven Fire Department's breakfast and the Arts and Crafts Fair at the town hall. It was great...I met a fellow bead maker, and she let me come by and pick up some pointers. She's been a bead maker for 16 years, and is just as excited about it as if she just started.
We also spent a day with a friend from my high school days and his wife. They drove over Trail Ridge Road to be with us. We ate lunch at Hunters, took the gondola to the top of a nearby hill, and finished out the day setting in the shade, enjoying drinks at the local juice establishment.
My adventuress grand daughter has now arrived in Malaysia. I'm following her blog, which is her way of staying in touch with friends and family. I check each day to see if she has had time to add another post.
My grand son's wife graduated from her Air Guard basic training last weekend, and now will be starting in on her specialized training in Texas.
Actually, at this moment, I can think of no more news...I think my brain has been soften by watching too much TV news. Can you believe the goings on in Washington DC?...as they say, "inside the beltway". What are those people thinking of!...or are they thinking at all!
And can you believe Chelsie Clinton is 30 years old...she's been dating her guy for over half her life! Wow! I'm impressed!
And how about Arizona's governor...She, Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman are my heroines! They, along with my grand daughter "the adventuress".

What a blogger I am.
Oh what a blogger I am, I am.

Oh what a blogger I am.
It looks like it's been a month and a half...same song 45th verse.
Still to cold to make beads...unless, of course, if I have something else already planned...then the sun comes out!
I'm going to have to back off on my Face Book addiction...although it's hard, as I just got my youngest grand daughter hooked on it, and it's fun to send her stuff.
Not only do I spend more time than I'd like on Face Book, due to some injury or another I've done to myself, (pinched nerve in my neck) being on the computer causes my right arm to hurt, and my two outside fingers on my right hand to go numb...well, they're pretty much numb all the time, but being on the computer makes them swell...This is not a good thing if I expect to return to bead making when the warmer weather gets here...IF it gets here! = )
So where am I...on the computer, of course.
I tried to make myself go to bed early, as Daylight Savings Time goes into effect tonight. It was earlier until I set the clock forward...then it was later. I'm on prednizone for the swelling in my spine, so guess who is fully energized here at 2:40 am...actually my computer still says 1:40, but I know full well what it's going to say in about 20 minutes...3:00!
So anyway, as I lay there fully awake, I got to thinking about the left overs in the frig from the night before and...well here I am.
Had a great time with my daughter, her husband, their daughter and her husband last night. I had them over for dinner. Fixed chicken and rice casserole, corn, broccoli, garden salad, and french bread. For dessert we had angel food cake with fresh strawberries and ice cream on top.
My daughter is one of my biggest fans...she loves my cooking as well as my beads.
I heard from the grand daughter who was hired by the oil company...they couldn't get her visa into Australia...they say that's a problem sometimes...so they're sending her to Malaysia. She's still happy...she's my adventuress. The job comes with a co-efficient rating...working in the US mainland is a 1 out of 7. Working in Malaysia is a 1.4 out of 7. Her friend who was selected to go to Equatorial Guinea off the coast of Africa, where the co-efficient rating is 4.7, and she is assigned a body guard. Yes, I truly am thankful she is not going there. (what turns grandmothers gray!)
This evening our family cooked dinner for the Ronald McDonald house. We could cook it there, but it's a lot easier to cook it at home where you have everything you need and just haul it down there. One of the couples have been there for three months now. They had a full house this evening, with three families being sent over to the Woodward, a bed and breakfast they use for overflow. It makes one really thankful for the healthy babies in our family.
Speaking of babies!!! My oldest grand daughter and her husband are going to make me a great grandma for the first time in September! WhooHooo!
OK...I just looked at the clock on my computer...it is now officially Daylight Savings Time 3:05.
I must get to sleep, as we do the early service on Sunday mornings.

An evening at home.
Is tonight a good night to write??? We'll see.
Normally I write when I am totally alone. Right now I'm setting in front of the television, my husband on my left, and my dog tucked in tightly next to my right leg...The dog I speak of is itty bit...I don't capitalize her name as she is to small to capitalize...she's a chihuahua. When she came to live with us, her name was Libby. She had belonged to my great niece, but being a college student with a job and a social life, she didn't feel she was able to do justice to the little dog, so went in search of a home for Libby. We were the third choice. At the time we had three other small dogs, but we decided she wouldn't eat much, so we took her on a week trial to see how everyone got along...The rest is history. That was five years ago this month. My how time flyes.
My bead business is on hold again. My heaters on the sun porch just can't keep up with the cold...especially if the wind is blowing. There were two days I could have worked out there, but unfortunately, I had "other plans" already in the works. (would I like a little cheese with my whine?) = )
The other night we were invited over to friends for crab legs and shrimp. We also had gingered rice and broccoli. YUM! Afterward, they invited us to stay and watch a "pay-per-view" movie on TV...a first for me...we have the service, have just never used it. We watched Julie & Julia. I especially enjoyed the cooking, the blogging and fact both Julie and Julia had good relationships with their husbands. The way Meryl Streep emulated Julia was incredible...she had her mannerisms down pat. I always enjoy Amy Adams. In my estimation, she is a young Meryl Streep, who I refer to as a chameleon actress...she becomes whoever she is playing...unlike John Wayne, who always played John Wayne and adapted the part to him. (no offense intended)

Fog! Can you believe it? Of course, first came the cold that stayed for two weeks...then it warms up, and now it's FOG! I don't really remember how long ago it came, and yesterday I thought it had left...but it came back!
Well if the weather is all I have to talk about, I guess things are pretty good.
What else is going on in my life...I'm about to get back into ancestry.com. I've picked up some new information from some relatives, and hopefully that will get me going again...in fact...that's next on my list.
Since last writing my oldest grandson and his new wife have both joined the Air Guard...he is in Texas right now for six months, and about the time he gets back, she'll be going. Some way to spend your first year of marriage!
My third granddaughter has accepted a position with a big oil company...it looks something like "Shellenberger" (I think) but is pronounced Slumber J. She will be in Perth, Australia.
My next oldest grandson is planning on joining the Air Force when he graduates from high school this spring.
I worked really hard and fast making beads all November and December...then it turned cold, and there's only been several days I have been able to work, due to the two heaters on the sunporch just can't quite keep it comfortable, unless, of course, if the sun is shining with no wind. There have been several days I could have worked out there, but had something previously planned, so missed making beads. Sooooo since I can't be out there, you'd think I'd have everything in the house caught up...right?...not so...
My 4th grandson introduced me to Facebook...I was quite flattered when he invited me to be his "Friend", then had a great time finding a lot of my other friends on it...then I got involved doing some virtual farming with my daughter, her four kids and my niece. It's great fun to be able to plow, plant and harvest with just a click of your mouse...and more fun to work on their farms and get "paid" for it...yet more fun to send and receive virtual gifts of cows, goats, horses, chickens, ducks, etc., and many kinds of trees and flowers...the longer I play it, the more stuff is introduced.
I need to spend more time in the real world of laundry, ironing and getting taxes ready to go to the accountant...and if I get all that caught up (like that's gonna happen) there's always the basement!
Back to the beads...I sold some, but I sold more when I made them into bracelets, necklaces and earrings! But what was even more fun was making them for my family. I gave away about 25 outfits, and really was rewarded by the excitement ...oh..I've got company...gotta go!

October 27, 2009 (the day after my BD)
What a wonderful weekend!
Friday evening: My youngest grand daughter arrived around 9:00 (just in time to be put to bed). It wasn't long until she was back downstairs, just a tear away from crying...she was missing her family. Normally when she stays, there are two siblings and two cousins here, but that queen size bed must have felt awfully lonely without anyone else in it. I went back upstairs and laid down with her...she was out like a light.
Saturday morning, I was notified it was time to get up by a very gentle knocking at my bedroom door. I told her I'd be right there, then I heard the piano, so knew she had found a way to entertain herself.
It wasn't long before we left for the Wakarusa annual Ham and Bean Feed. The weather was perfect. We ate outside at the picnic tables, and aside from the spiders and the bees, it was a very pleasant time. We had met up with some of our friends, so we took up the whole table.
In the afternoon, we made and decorated sugar cookies, then it was on to making beads.
My grand daughter loves to design beads, but is too young to make them, but very good at telling me exactly what to do.
We ordered Chinese delivered, and shortly after dinner her parents arrived to take her home.
Sunday morning was church, then around noon-thirty the whole crew began to arrive, and to make tacos. I didn't have to do anything, just enjoy the company and the buzz of having six simultaneous conversations.
It was a great day. We were missing three of my grand children and their spouses, but where as this started out as just four of us going out for Sunday dinner, and ending up tacos for 23, I can't complain. What a wonderful day!
Monday the cleaning lady came...that's always a good day. We had left over tacos for lunch, and I got to make beads all afternoon. Just before 6:00 JoAn and Jim Brown picked us up, and took us over to Arliss and John's for a spagetti dinner. Shortly after we arrived, Pastor and Jolene arrived, followed by Sandy and Walt, with a birthday cake in hand.
It was a totally enjoyable evening. I received many birthday greetings from friends on Facebook, and cards in the mail. It reminded me of how many wonderful friends and relatives I have, and I appreciate each and every one of them.
Today I need to run errands...they get stacked up awfully fast...My list is getting longer, so I'm off...but we knew that!

I should be headed for bed....but...
This is as close as I've come in a long time to getting to add to my blog. Usually I exercise more restraint, but tonight, even though I need to be somewhere by 9:00 AM, I'm still determined to get something down...I'm working with a real handicap...I accidently download "The Crawler" onto my computer, and it has pretty much tried to take over everything. It now commands my "home page" with it's own "Inbox", and since I've done everything to try to uninstall it, it's punishing me by not allowing about every tenth letter to print. ARGH!
Perserverance needed here...
Now...back to my "Dear Diary".
I have been totally blessed by having a dear friend (Sandy) volunteer to remove the beads from the mandrels, clean the beads and mandrels, redip the mandrels and process the packaging of the beads. She also accompanies me to take inventory of the beads I have out on consignment and helps me keep track of myself...(one very taxing job!) Am I fortunate or what!?!
I have designed a "running series" with 20 different but like beads. When you look at the edge of the bead, you can see a path going around with dots, offset on either side, which give it the rhythm of running. The base bead is where the difference comes in ie: "runs in snow" is a white bad, where as "runs on ice" is a clear bead..."runs in rain" is a blue base bead, and "runs at night" has a black base, etc. There's even a "runs for fun". I had this bead, but didn't know what to call it, so asked my friend Joan (JoAn) to name it for me.
Then a lot of series came to my head..."night rider" all have a base bead of "moss agate", which is dark brown/black/tan in color, and I put different designs on them, such as "fireflies in the night", "clear night", "foggy night", etc.
"painted dasies" are all on a base bead of transparent gold, with green running around the middle with dot of color in a line...a different color for each bead.
My last series was my "feather series", but I haven't completed it yet....but they are very beautiful..so far I have "white dove", "blue jay", "raven" and "parrot". I have ideas for others, such as "turtle dove", "cardinal", "goldfinch", and will be searching the bird books for other ideas. All of the above mentioned beads are somewhere between round and donut shaped beads.
So now...what I've been waiting to do ever since I walked into Kate Drew-Wilkinson's store, Uptown Tribal, in Bisbee, AZ. I have finally started making "tree beads"! Each one is taking me between 45 minutes to an hour, but definitely worth the time. Each bead has a background of a river, a valley, mountains and clouds. In fact, one of the back grounds was so beautiful, I couldn't bare to cover it up with a tree, so I merely put a stump of a tree on that side. : )
OK...enough about my beads...tonight, Sandy and I went down to The Jewelry Box, and took a lesson on wire wrapping. We used natural stones with some crystal beads for highlight. What fun!...and I might add, also...How Pretty! (honk honk...(honking my own horn again))
What's next? Glass Fusing...hope I spelled it right. I have the stained glass to do it with, and the kiln to do it in...all I need is a lesson and I'll be "Off!" And I know exactly where to take the lessons. Tamyra, at Creations Unique is my next stop for a new creative experience.
OK...I've stayed at the computer longer than I had planned to...especially considering having to retype every 10th letter...talk about an albatross around your neck!
More to come after my Fusing lessons...(fuseing? fuzing? fuzeing?)

Monday Night...
What is this...I can't sleep? No, I didn't have any caffeine...no I'm not troubled...What could it be??? So as I lay there, I remembered I didn't turn the dishwasher on...then I couldn't remember if I turned the propane to the torch off. I turned it of at the torch...but did I turn it off at the tank? OK...two excuses to go downstairs and take care of stuff...so I turn on the dishwasher, and it started making this increditable noise...I checked inside, but nothing was hanging up...so tried it again...tomorrow I'll call Sears. Then I went out and checked the propane valve...it was off, but even looking at it, I still couldn't remember turning it off...that's a little scary.
Bead making is going well. I can now make a bead with the hole in the center and dimples in each end of the hole most of the time, and have fewer "wonkie" beads all the time...and I can do all this in less time...much less time than it used to take me. (the first thousand beads were the hardest) I've gotten a good response from the bead shop. Cheri is always excited to see what I bring in on Wednesdays. I'm done with red, white and blue for a while (I think...unless I get a request). A friend suggested I should start doing beads in the school colors now...good suggestion...thanks, Donna. So this evening I did a bunch of green and white beads. The rod I used was emerald green...when they cooled, they were mint green...it's like that...quite often you get surprised...I'm learning. I had particularly good luck with a blue aventurine glass rod yesterday...but just when I'd hit on a new design, I ran out of rod...need to order more. Guess I should try the design in another color (now why didn't I think of that when I had the torch lit?)
I had the six youngest grandkids over this week...The three boys stayed about 24 hours, but the three girls stayed an extra night (and day). Laurel, the 10 year old is particularly fastinated by bead making...she wanted very badly for me to let her make a bead...but after I explained how hot that torch was, she was happy with just designing what I would make next...then while I was making it, she'd take the cooled beads off the mandrels and clean the beadrelease out of the hole in the bead...that really helps a lot...I'd like to offer her a full time position!
OK...I'm going to try to get to sleep again...I think it may take this time.
Bead making is going well. I can now make a bead with the hole in the center and dimples in each end of the hole most of the time, and have fewer "wonkie" beads all the time...and I can do all this in less time...much less time than it used to take me. (the first thousand beads were the hardest) I've gotten a good response from the bead shop. Cheri is always excited to see what I bring in on Wednesdays. I'm done with red, white and blue for a while (I think...unless I get a request). A friend suggested I should start doing beads in the school colors now...good suggestion...thanks, Donna. So this evening I did a bunch of green and white beads. The rod I used was emerald green...when they cooled, they were mint green...it's like that...quite often you get surprised...I'm learning. I had particularly good luck with a blue aventurine glass rod yesterday...but just when I'd hit on a new design, I ran out of rod...need to order more. Guess I should try the design in another color (now why didn't I think of that when I had the torch lit?)
I had the six youngest grandkids over this week...The three boys stayed about 24 hours, but the three girls stayed an extra night (and day).
